Ministry

We Quakers seek silence to hear the voice of God.

We try to not hear our own voice in our own head –
to better listen for God’s voice.

But if God spoke to me in my own head,
might God not use my own voice?

Or perhaps God would speak to me in the song of a bird.

I can “hear” God’s voice with my eyes. Or in a touch.

Now, remembering the smell of lilacs,
I’m absolutely certain that scent conveys God’s word.

And sometimes –
When I listen to you speaking,
Sometimes then I hear the voice of God.
