Given the potential for a nuclear war in the Ukraine, it's important that our elected officials hear from us. I've included five documents here a lot for you to consider, and hope you will find them valuable. Please join me in writing our Senators, Representatives, and President Biden.
ONE: My thoughts on the need to support the UN Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty
Here in Port Townsend, 27 air miles north of the Bangor Naval base, all we live in extreme risk 24-7. Nearly one-quarter of America’s 9,962 nuclear weapons are now assigned to the Bangor submarine base on Hood Canal. This makes Bangor the largest nuclear weapons storehouse in the United States, and possibly the world. In a nuclear war, the Trident base will probably be struck by multiple nuclear missiles. Radioactive fallout from a ground burst nuclear explosion follows the wind, and will impact cities hundreds of miles away, including Port Townsend is
Now is the time to join with people all over the world supporting the 2017 UN treaty banning nuclear weapons. Let’s encourage each other, claim the power to survive and be the change that must occur to protect life on our garden planet. As Martin Luther King said, “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.”
Only by joining together can “We the People” empower our democratic government to sign and come into compliance with the life-saving weapons ban treaty.
TWO: Statement from Bridget Moix of FCNL.
THREE: A recent letter from Senator Jeff Merkely (D-OR)
FOUR: 2022 statement from the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists
FIVE: Article from Consortium News, 1/28/2022.
Thanks so much for your assistance, Friends! Every day is a blessing! May we escape the death trap we have created for ourselves with all the military spending intent on being "top dawg” with full-spectrum dominance.
