Write for Western Friend on Our Beloved Dead

Please consider submitting a piece to Western Friend’s September/October edition: Our Beloved Dead. The deadline is August 1, 2025.

Death changes everything it touches and is a promise to all living beings. Please share about the people you’ve lost and how you make sense of life without them in it.

Some queries to consider:

It’s been my experience that the deaths of my beloved people are each their own initiatory experiences. How have the deaths of your beloved people initiated you?

In what ways do you feel connected or disconnected from the people you love when they die?

Have you had an experience of connecting with a beloved dead person who you did not personally know across time though their writing, social justice work, or art?

How do Friends in your community process death, what has your meeting been able to do to be supportive of grievers?

Grief is an altered state of being. It changes the perceptions and abilities of the griever and there isn’t a prescribed way or timeline to process grief. How have you interacted with the changes that grief brings in your life?
