Ubuntu: A Quaker Documentary Film

Ubuntu is envisioned as an exploratory documentary capturing the upcoming Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) World Plenary Meeting in South Africa in August 2024. It is being produced by the same team of Quaker filmmakers who created Salt and Light, a documentary about 2012 world plenary in Kenya.

The theme of the 2024 world plenary is “Living the spirit of Ubuntu: Responding with hope to God’s call to cherish creation – and one another.”

Three sub-themes will be explored and woven together – during the meeting and throughout the film-making process – Ubuntu/Community, Healing Historical Injustice, and Care for Creation. Our film will endeavor to reflect on our interconnectedness, to celebrate community and diversity, and be a meditation on faith and action and care for creation.
