Dear Friends,
Yesterday I went to the motherhouse, as I do most Saturdays. I was particularly excited this week, because a man from La Fortuna would be coming to talk about the possibility of rebuilding the monastery, which has rottwd out due to termites and weather. Don Tino is a house builder who knows how to make adobe. The clay soil on our hill, along with the abundant pine needles, are just what is needed for such construction. Moreover, it's cheaper than wood construction, even using trees on our land. Now have the opportunity to rebuild the house as we had originally imagined, from completely local natural materials!
Don Tino could build us a new monastery house and put on a new roof for around $2,000 -- less than we paid 18 years ago for the original wood building! We would wait on redoing the kitchen and outhouse for now (there is only enough water stored to make adobes for one building). We have enough money in our credit union account to do this, if donors are agreeable to using the funds this way. More donations are always welcome to continue supporting the public health clinic.
What do you think?
