Woolman Is Seeking a Manager for Its New Retreat Center
Based in the California Sierra Nevada foothills, Woolman offers diverse educational and enrichment programs at the Sierra Friends Center campus, a hub for Quaker values: peace, simplicity, community, integrity, and equality. Its new Retreat Center is a special place where guests can study, practice, reflect and renew immersed in the healing power of nature. The 240-acre campus includes a variety of simple accommodations, meeting spaces, hiking trails and a working farm that provides fresh organic food.
Woolman is seeking a Retreats Manager to be responsible for all aspects of retreats, events and workshops, and to ensure that guests share in the Woolman Experience that has been part of its culture for the past 6 decades. S/he will market retreats to like-minded organizations and individuals whose programming will be enhanced through the immersion in nature and a community that supports Quaker values. The Retreats manager will oversee guest lodging and meeting spaces, manage regular Woolman Experience amenities for guests, such as yoga classes, meditation sessions, guided hikes, and exposure to the Grass Valley Friends Meetings, and all aspects of guest services. The Retreats Manager will also support Woolman-sponsored events and workshops in collaboration with the Programs Director. The Retreats Manager will maintain a working knowledge of camp-style retreat industry standards as well as ACA standards, and ensure that appropriate procedures and accommodations are being upheld and surpassed by Woolman.
Interested individuals who have 3-5 years direct experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity in the hospitality industry with some experience in camp-style retreats are welcome to apply. S/he must willingly support Woolman’s mission and values and the goals of the Retreats programming and have a desire to promote Quaker values of peace, justice, integrity, non-bias, simplicity, and sustainability. The candidate must be hospitality-minded, and care about positive guest services balanced with organizational capacity to deliver.
Competitive compensation is offered, depending on experience will be in the mid-$40k-$50ks. Onsite housing may be available to rent. This is a full time, exempt position that requires onsite office presence.
