As a relatively new resident of the Friends House retirement community, I am interested in how it compares with other senior communities founded by Quakers. Recently, I did some research on this question.
Coincidentally, the March/April 2023 issue of Western Friend magazine includes an article by Sue Friday on the mis-use of the Quaker name in several contexts -- from “Quaker Oats” to some more egregious examples.
Attached is my report on what I have learned about senior communities founded by Quakers, most of which not now directly managed by the original sponsoring Quaker organization.
