Kendal’s New Communities in California

Dear Western Friends!

I am delighted to connect with you about our most recent move at Kendal, which is our expansion to California! Speaking as the new CEO of The Kendal Corporation (since January of this year) AND as an Oregonian, it is an exciting opportunity to spread our Quaker values and serve more older adults in the non-profit communities and organizations that Kendal supports.

For nearly half a century, Kendal has been an organization of senior living communities and services rooted in Quaker values. Kendal is known for its commitment to lifelong learning, acknowledging the value of every person by respecting and asking for their participation and thoughts, promoting sustainability, and establishing a deep commitment to the broader local communities where Kendals are located by providing supportive and person-centered services.

Traditionally established on the East Coast, Kendal has built a reputation for excellence in senior living. Now, Kendal is excited to announce expansion into California, most recently with the opening of Enso Village in late 2023 in picturesque Sonoma Valley and the planning for the development of Enso Verde outside of Los Angeles in Simi Valley.

Kendal's mission is deeply intertwined with Quaker principles. With the development of Enso Village and Enso Verde, residents can also experience the cultural fusion of Quaker values and Zen Principles, as we partner with the San Franciso Zen Center to create these communities.

The California Kendals

1. Enso Village in Sonoma Valley marks a significant milestone in Kendal's legacy. It merges traditional Quaker values with the mindful practices of Zen. This unique blend offers residents an environment where mindfulness and connectivity are at the forefront.
2. Enso Verde is in the planning stages and poised to bring a philosophy similar to Enso Village. If you resonate with Quaker values and seek a community that embodies these principles alongside Zen mindfulness, consider making Enso Village or Enso Verde your new home.
