Information for Service Members

Published: Aug. 20, 2019

Great Falls Worship group just might have news. With Malmstrom Air Force Base at our door steps, we are planning on placing an informative bulletin about Quaker House in the church on the base, so they can have access to real counseling. Quaker House is an organization in Fayetteville, NC, that provides counseling and support to service members who are questioning their role in the military. Jasmine Krotkov has written the bulletin and various folks, including Quaker House, are helping her refine the wording.

Several years ago, a chaplain came to the Great Falls Ministerial Association, asking for help. He said the men who actually stay inside the missile silos with the missiles live a stressful life. Each spends 24 hours with one other person, 90 feet underground, with the ability to send a nuclear-armed missile many places in the world. They then spend 48 hours getting home and being home before repeating. In other words, a schedule that is tough on the family as well as the men.

Jasmine Krotkov recently attended a workshop on moral injury, which results from the military requiring people to take actions that their morals say are wrong – all in the name of patriotism.

America is currently planning to spend $1.7 TRILLION to upgrade our nuclear arsenal when the Pentagon does not even want it!!! But every state, including Montana, wants the money for their military installations, businesses which build the bombs, physicists and other specialists who specialize in how to kill people. This vast spending is instead of building better trains, hospitals, schools, roads and bridges. Just so our nation can continue to be King of the Mountain.
