After a prayerful discussion during our meeting for business on April 3, 2024, Grass Valley Friends Meeting agreed that as a Meeting we want to be a contributor to the fund-raising efforts of the California Heritage Indigenous Research Project (CHIRP), which is representing our local Nisenan tribe as they work to purchase the property that was once John Woolman School and Sierra Friends Center, the property where our current meetinghouse is located.
With $125 already in our 2023-24 budget for CHIRP, we decided to move $375 from the meeting’s savings account toward our donation to CHIRP. That is, we approved a $500 donation to CHIRP from Grass Valley Friends Meeting.
We held the sense of unity in our meeting community for this support.
We hope that other Friends will continue to send donations to CHIRP. The Nisenan are close to meeting their current fundraising goal of $2.4M.
