with Karen Tibbals, a passionate speaker on building relationships among those with differing political views.
Do you preach? If you talk without taking into account what the person you are talking to already thinks, you are preaching--rehearsing what you believe. But preaching is only effective to those already in the choir. It doesn’t work to the people you most want to reach—those who disagree with you. And that leads to broken relationships with family and friends. If you want people to really hear what you have to say and give it due consideration, then you must learn to talk to people in such a way that they can hear you. You need to understand people on a deep level and figure out what really matters to them. Then, you need to adjust your message.
Karen will give practical suggestions on how to express your ideas in a non-confrontational way that others can hear.
