Amigas del Señor News: New aspirant

Annette Beneche is our new aspirant. We are delighted. Annette is 40 years old and from Haiti. She had been all set to enter a Franciscan religious house in Jamaica last year. She flew to Jamaica only to be told that the convent was reorganizing and was unable to accept her after all. They gave her advice but not what she wanted--a religious community in which to live out her vocation. We have been corresponding with Annette since February by Whats App.
At first she was disappointed to learn that we are not Roman Catholic. Not a surprise. We continued communicating as she looked for another community. Since she has already been vetted by the Franciscans, it should be easy. Ha. She found a group in Benin that would accept her, but that fell through. Transportation from Jamaica to Benin is far from direct. After a few months of us being her major personal support source, she decided that coming to us was the thing to do.
Transportation and visas are a challenge. Annette speaks Haitian creole and French. We speak English and Spanish. She has a translator app on her telephone. Sometimes the translation is ridiculous. Then we try again.
More later.
Blessings,
Hermana Alegría
