To Our Friends on the Mainland:

Are you a member of the Religious Society of Friends wishing to read more about Quakerism? Are you a non-member interested in finding out more about Friends’ faith and practice? Or are you perhaps deciding if becoming a member is right for you?

Worship & Ministry committee of Honolulu Friends Meeting (HFM) is offering a six-unit class on Quakerism.

Quakerism 101 – Six sessions starting:
June 20, 2021
Each session, one hour starting:
11:30 AM Hawaiian Time = 2:30 PM Pacific Time = 3:30 Mountain Time
Contact Renie Wong Lindley to register.

The course will continue on each of the third Sundays of the month from June to November 2021.

It will be held both at the Meetinghouse and on Zoom; in other words, a “hybrid” / “blended” class.

UNIT A: Seekers and Finders: The Experience of Early Friends

UNIT B: The Light Within

UNIT C: Quaker Universalism

UNIT D: Worship and Ministry

UNIT E: Living in the Light, Quaker Witness

UNIT F: Getting Down to Business

At the beginning of each month, the assigned readings for that UNIT will be available to you in PDF format on the Honolulu Friends private website. You may download and print if you wish, or just read the digital copy. (If the print is sideways, just right-click and find “rotate clockwise.”)

Yes, you will be enriched. Many of these readings are quotes from source documents. The idea is to have read them in advance of the third Sunday. But perhaps the most interesting part of this course turn out to be the reflections and discussions (sometimes in small group format) that we will have during the third Sunday classes.

At the end of each month’s class W&M asks if you could complete for us a simple evaluation. We intend to portray not only warmth and objective sensitivity but also provide a safe place to share your personal thoughts and feelings about your own spiritual path. So, any helpful suggestions are most welcome.
