Dear Friends:

What is Prayer?

An attempt to create rapport with what inspires devotion and is larger than oneself. Prayer may be spontaneous or planned, individual or communal, short and sweet or long and dogmatic.

The historical record refers to prayer as a practice going back at least five millennia, and it probably arose long before any written record.

The positive effects of prayer reside within the person praying, and they can assess its effectiveness. Some years ago, I was surprised and sad to learn that some people don’t know how to pray. The idea that prayer may affect the world outside of those who pray is a subject of intense interest and is yet uncertain.

Feeling that one is held in the Light is like a spirit hug.
