Dear Editor: Like most Friends, I have been appalled by the genocidal acts being perpetrated in Gaza and the West Bank, but I left Pacific Yearly Meeting’s annual session this summer with a feeling of joy that I haven’t felt for many years. What made my heart leap was that we approved a minute of concern on Israel/Palestine.
For the past eight years or so, our yearly meeting has not taken public stands on issues of peace and justice. This silence has deeply grieved me since I know that Friends in our yearly meeting care deeply about justice and peace. I am grateful that this year our yearly meeting has taken a stand to call for a just and lasting peace in the war-devastated region of Israel/Palestine.
I am glad we can show with our words and our deeds that we Quakers believe that Palestinian lives matter! ~~~
