Dear Friends: I want like to share with you an item I read in The Advocate (New Orleans newspaper) and my own mathematical reflections on it. On November 19, 2015, the Advocate reported that the U.S. drops an average of 2,228 bombs a month in Syria and Iraq, at a cost of $11.1 million a day.
My reflections are these: $11.1 million times thirty days is $333 million a month. 2,228 bombs per month at a cost of $333 million per month is roughly equivalent to 2,100 bombs per month for $300 million per month. That is equivalent to seven bombs for every million dollars. Welfare for the rich.
