John Woolman was an indefatigable, relentless crusader against the heinous and shameless enslavement of man by man. Making the fight against slavery his lifelong pursuit, Woolman traveled on foot for the most part and occasionally on horseback to every slaveholding plantation in the 13 colonies to preach against slavery.

In his journal, Woolman anticipates the civil rights movement and that which has gained currency in the U.S. today with the moniker, CRT. Evoking and honoring him 250 years after his death is a way to point to the fact that idealists die, but not their ideals.

Bill F. Ndi, Professor of Modern Languages, Communication and Philosophy at Tuskegee University is an interdisciplinary scholar whose interests span Quaker Studies, languages, literatures, translation, and more.
