Workshop on Policing

(US/Pacific)
Dear Friends, I would love any help you can give in letting people know about a workshop I am hosting on policing. I have updated the workshop I coordinated in the fall and am feeling led to widen this discussion to a broader community of Friends, as well as our friends who are not Quakers. Please forward this to anyone you think might be interested. This interactive online course offers a chance to reflect on what it means to live in a culture which normalizes state violence and is focused on punishment and prison. We will spend eight weeks learning about some of the issues of policing, hearing about alternative solutions that are being tried, and exploring how to best decrease violence in our communities. Abolishing our current criminal (in)justice system is not just an ending; it’s about building a different kind of world. Re-Envisioning Community Safety: exploring policing and alternatives Eight Mondays, February 7 – March 28, 2022 Two hours each, starting 6:30 PM Pacific = 7:30 PM Mountain People do not need to be part of a religious community, but I am maintaining a broadly spiritual approach, so those attending should be comfortable with this. There will also be some focus on things that are happening in the Portland area. People from anywhere are invited. Content warning: material in the course covers violence and racial trauma.  To register or for more information contact Kepper Petzing (they) at  kporegon3[AT]yahoo[DOT]com   from Kepper Petzing, Multnomah Friends Meeting (1/4/2022)
