Friends World Committee in Arizona in March
Friends World Committee for Consultation
Section of the Americas
March 20–23, 2025
In-person in Arizona and Online
“Members of Sierra Cascades would be inspired to meet Friends who are experimenting with or exploring similar uncharted pathways to your relatively new Yearly Meeting, especially those with openness to get outside their comfort zone and try something new,” Evan Welkin, executive secretary of FWCC’s section of the Americas, wrote in an email.
Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) is a global organization that brings Friends of varying traditions and cultural experiences together in worship, communications, and consultation. Around the world there are four cooperating, autonomous FWCC Sections that serve Africa, the Americas, Asia & the West Pacific, and Europe & the Middle East.
Sierra-Cascades is a member of FWCC’s Section of the Americas.
According to Evan, Section meetings are the opportunity for Friends of all kinds of theological, cultural, and language backgrounds to meet and share on a regular basis on a very wide range of subject matter.
“Friends who are interested in intervisitation, areas of national or international concern like social and ecological justice, and in connecting deeply with the wider world of Friends,” Evan said, “find great richness in Section meetings.”
“Members of your yearly meeting,” he continued, “are cornerstones of our work, from serving as representatives to committee members to staff roles, and Section meeting is a great way for those who are curious to learn what the fun is all about!”
Evan Welkin is a native of the Pacific Northwest. His brother Avery serves on Sierra-Cascades’ Coordinating Committee.
The section meeting will be held at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, Arizona.
