Conflict is inevitable for us as humans. With our individual experiences and backgrounds, the seeds of conflict are in and around us all. When conflict arises within our Quaker meetings, from the disruptive to the destructive, we must respond – both as individuals and collectively. Our goal will be to restore community or “common unity.”

Parker Palmer says, “In a true community . . . our companions will be given to us by grace, and often they will be persons who will upset our view of self and world. In fact, we might define true community as that place where the person you least want to live with always lives! (Parker Palmer, A Place Called Community, PHP 212 p.20)

We will explore these questions and paradoxes together in a 90-minute online workshop with Tom Rothschild. Tom has facilitated conflict resolution for Friends meetings and other organizations for over twenty years. He was a founding member of the Committee for Conflict Transformation of New York Yearly Meeting. He continues this ministry as a member of Strawberry Creek Monthly Meeting in Pacific Yearly Meeting.
