November 19, 2023, 1 PM US/Pacific
The 1989 University of Central America (UCA) massacre, where Elba Ramos, her daughter Celina, and six Jesuit priests were killed, stands as a stark reminder of the consequences of militarism and external intervention, particularly the U.S. role in Latin America’s violent conflicts. This historical tragedy echoes today in our increasingly militarized world, as we witness ongoing wars and human rights violations, including the recent escalation of violence in Gaza.
School of the Americas Watch (SOAW) invites you to join us online in remembrance and solidarity:
34th Anniversary Vigil
Sunday, November 19, 2023
11:00 AM Hawaii = 1:00 PM Pacific = 2:00 PM Mountain

Our vigil connects past and present struggles, from the UCA martyrs’ opposition to war and work for justice in the 1980s to current efforts against U.S. support for forces implicated in human rights abuses. We also stand in solidarity with those advocating for a cease-fire, the end of blockades, and the protection of innocent lives in Gaza.
We will be joining the SOA Watch musicians’ collective for a powerful program of remembrance and advocacy. The vigil is an opportunity to honor the memory of those who fought for justice and to recommit ourselves to the ongoing struggle for a world rooted in dignity and peace.
