Progress to Limit Military Authorization

For years, Friends Committee on Legislation – through the work of our local Advocacy Teams – has lobbied Congress to repeal the 2002 Iraq Authorization for Use of Military Force against Iraq (2002 Iraq AUMF). Last week, a bipartisan bill from Sens. Tim Kaine (VA) and Todd Young (IN) to repeal this outdated war authorization cleared a key procedural hurdle in the Senate. The bill would also repeal another AUMF from 1991.
