Banning Nuclear Weapons


Sacramento Friends Meeting is cosponsoring a webinar with the Davis Committee Against Nuclear Weapons. The webinar is entitled “Local Activism in Banning Destructive Weapons: From Landmines to Nuclear Weapons” and will feature Naomi Egel, a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science, Cornell University. The webinar will be held via Zoom.

When the Spirit Calls: Engaging the Challenges of Ministry by Jay Marshall has just been published by FGC QuakerPress.

The book, Jay writes, “…urges a radical shift in our understanding of ministry, of our perception of our place in the world, and the contributions we make to it. No matter what part of the Quaker world in which you’ve chosen to live,” he adds, “God calls everyone to something.”

Black lives matter. On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a black man, did not just die, he was killed in Minnesota by Derek Chauvin, one of four white police officers present. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey  denounced the officers, “Being black in America should not be a death sentence... I believe what I saw and what I saw is wrong on every level.” Only after public outcry was Chauvin arrested and charged with 3rd degree murder and manslaughter.
