Though the day began with sweeping views of Ghost Ranch’s majestic painted bluffs and surrounding buttes, by the time Friends began arriving for the opening sessions of IMYM’s Annual Gathering, smoke from the Wallow Fire in Arizona had almost entirely obscured the views. During the first plenary, IMYM clerk Claire Leonard (Gila) asked us to “hold her house in the Light”, as she lives uncomfortably close to the eastern edge of the conflagration.

Following breakfast and worship sharing groups, Friends gathered for a morning plenary session, which began with an epistle from Ireland Yearly Meeting. They then heard the registrar’s report. Of the 333 attendees at IMYM this year, half came for Early Days, 92 were youths, 20 were young adult Friends, 98 were “in the middle” and 123 were 60+.
