Blogging and Friends in the West
The term “blog” is a contraction of web log, and is used to describe websites written and maintained by individuals who are interested in exploring a wide array of topics. The writing on blogs tends to be casual, more like a journal entry than a news article or essay. Bloggers may write about their day, reflect upon something they’ve read recently, respond to a current issue, or posit any number of interesting ideas. Those who read the blog are often invited to share their thoughts in return by leaving a comment at the end of the entry. The conversations that take place between the author and the commentors can be fascinating and deeply moving. And among Friends, the exchanges are very interesting indeed, often bridging geography, theological differences, and the various splits among Friends. The term “Convergent Friends” is often used to describe those engaged in these exploratory conversations.
Visit QuakerQuaker to read a selection of Quaker blogs from all over the world, selected by an editorial team that scours the internet every day.
Many Western Friends are bloggers, more than we can keep track of! The following list of bloggers is by no means exhaustive, and focuses more on blogs tending to topics of a spiritual/Quakerly nature. Please let us know if there is a blog we ought to add.
