This is a year of big changes for this publication. After 79 years of wearing Anna Brinton’s “temporary” name, the Board of Friends Bulletin discerned that it might be time to select a permanent name. Western Friend was chosen to reflect our regional focus. We hope you like it!
At the same time, esteemed editor Anthony Manousos felt a calling to lay down the ministry of Friends Bulletin and move on to new horizons. He and his wife Kathleen are selling their house in California and hitting the open road! Friends throughout the West and across the country are likely to see them during their three months of travel. The wandering wayfarers will arrive at Pendle Hill sometime around October, where Anthony will spend a few months working on a book about Howard and Anna Brinton. Friends are excited to see Anthony embark upon the next leg of his spiritual journey, and are deeply appreciative of the care, thoughtfulness and hard work he brought to his twelve-year tenure as editor. He will be missed.
With Anthony’s departure, the Board of Directors for Friends Bulletin undertook to hire a new editor. Many months and hours of interviews and discernment later, they hired Kathy Hyzy. Kathy is a member of Multnomah Monthly Meeting in Portland, Oregon, though she considers herself a resident of The West. She has lived at various times in Oregon, Washington, Montana, Arizona and Hawai’i, and has spent enough time in California and Idaho that it ought to count for something. Please take the time to say hello and introduce yourself when you see her at Annual Session
